Prelude to Pirate Prince

I'm the moon on the lake; two canoes ahead and two shoes
Behind —You're talking about the Wright Brothers
And you're right
About everything except our making love
I'm too intense when I'd rather just be in tents; building campfires
Beer in hand — The boys accepting me as I man
And I am one
About everything except our making love
You see love isn't made; love is had and you had me
Once — Okay, twenty times before the poison
And our sabbatical where we forced thoughts
About everything except our making love
You never left the dock; I doubt you could have if you tried
Fate — It know when one's first mate is minus
And the pirate stayed ashore while the poet cried
About everything except the memory of our making love
Our book; it was never written, but it's waiting
For Us — the two first mated among the equines
And one day perhaps we'll go to sea and forget
About everything except our making love
